1. Where are you from?
I was born and raised in San Carlos, California.
2. How long have you been with ADPP
I have been with ADPP for fifteen years!
3. What do you like most about your job?
The children are so eager to learn and they have so much fun doing so. I love
being a part of that process. Also, where else can you go to work and get an
abundance of hugs every day?!
4. What is your teaching background and experience?
I have been teaching Kindergarten for nine years. Before that, I worked with
toddlers and pre-school age.
5. What do you think is special about your ADPP location?
We have such a community atmosphere on the Amber Elementary campus. All of us,
teachers, administrators, students and parents, treat each other with care
and respect.
6. What is your favorite part of the day at ADPP?
“Enrichment Time”! Whether it is art, science music or social studies, this
is a chance to creatively teach the material in a fun and exciting manner.
7. What is the last book you read out loud?
Duck For President by Doreen Cronin and Betsy Lewin.
8. What is the last book you read to yourself?
It’s Not About the Bike by Lance Armstrong.
9. What is the funniest thing a child has said/done in your class?
They make me laugh every day! Most recently, I overheard two boys talking
about why they did not want to become dads: One said, “To be a dad, you have
to get married.” The other boy replied, “Yeah, and when you’re married you
have to get a job…and when you have a job, you have to take a shower EVERY
DAY!”
10. What do you do in your spare time?
I love to be outdoors. I like to go camping with friends, swimming and I’m a
Giants baseball fan.
11. What achievement are you most proud of?
I am proud to be a teacher that makes a difference in children’s lives. I
love being able to watch “my” children grow and make progress through their
years at Primary Plus and beyond.
12. What should children look forward to
doing/learning in Kindergarten?
Making new friends and becoming an important part of a class that
loves to play and learn together!
13. What is the single best piece of advice you
can give parents of Kindergarten?
Don’t be scared! Often, the parents are more nervous than their
Kindergarten “babies” are on the first day of school.
14. Do you have any healthy lunch ideas?
Sliced deli meats, low fat cheeses, dried or fresh fruits. These
are healthier and less expensive than “Lunchables” type packages and you can
cater them to meet your child’s preferences..
15. Do you have any learning to read tips?
Read with your children every day. Model good reading habits by
following the words with your finger and even stop occasionally and
phonetically “sound out” easy words. Challenge your children to read signs
they see while riding in the car, you’ll both be surprised at the number of
words they recognize!
